South Anza Borrego Trail

Lower Devil’s Canyon – Dos Cabezas Spring – Mortero Wash

Dos Cabezas Tower - Piedras Grandes -  Peipcorn Notch

This trail begins in the community of Ocotillo near the intersection of Interstate 8 and Hwy S2.   On the north side of I8 head west on Even Hewes (Old Hwy 80).  Continue to the end of the pavement then continue on the dirt road heading west.  Follow the railroad along the north side until passing under the power lines.  After passing under the power lines cross the railroad.  Continue going west until dropping into a fairly deep wash heading southwest.  This is the Devil’s Canyon wash.  Follow the wash to the end of the well traveled trail.   It is a nice hike up the canyon beyond the end of the traveled trail.

Return down the wash taking the first left that goes up and over a rise.  Continue on the trail to a trail intersection that indicates a turnoff to Dos Cabezas Spring.

After visiting the spring return to the sign and take a left continuing to another intersection and sign to Mortero Palms.  Take a left up to the parking area.    Then return heading north for a mile or so to the Dos Cabasas water tower.  Immediately after crossing the train tracks take a left and continue to Piedras Grandes.  After visiting Piedras Grandes return to the trail and continue north passing through Peopcorn Notch.  After passing the notch is a fun dropoff into a wash.  Cross the wash and continue north to Hwy S2.
