Joining Two  Straps

When using a strap, it is best to have the proper length strap.  Sometimes that is not possible and more length is needed.   Joining two straps together at their loops is safe but when the two loops tighten together it is almost impossible to get them apart.   Some people, including myself, have used shackles to join the loops of the straps together.  Using shackles is not the best way to join two straps because, in the highly unlikely event a strap might break, the shackle might go flying.

A safe way to join straps together, and one that will come apart easily, is to place a rolled up towel or other cloth item between the loops before they tighten.   If something breaks, the towel will fall to the ground instead of becoming a projectile.
